The theme of the parade this year was classic board games. I must have blacked out for a few years during my childhood as I didn’t know half of the games featured in the floats which included Monopoly, Battleship and Chutes and Ladders. (Snakes and Ladders in Australia). Worse still, I heard “floats” walking down to Main Street and thought I was going to get some sort of root beer drink for attending. Instead, Sheplers won a trophy for their “Battleship” entry and I got zip.
It was one of the weirdest parades I have been to, but it was amusing to watch a parade introduced by Indians on horseback, morph into a what seemed like a street party containing monopoly, dancing older people wearing faux bikini’s, 6-year-old cheerleaders, candy being thrown at my face full force, dogs in sunglasses and ending with a bunch of guys dressed as random weird stuff playing random instruments encouraging the crowd to follow them to God knows where. Weird but fun.
For a country without a monarchy there seems to be many congratulatory Queens here – from Cherry Creek Queen, Queen of the Lilac Festival, Queen of The Beautiful Young People In Lower Michigan, Queen of Apple Picking County, Queen of Outer Lansing..Jesus. All Queens and no subjects.
Did you go to the parade this year? What did you think?
